Villanova Players take us back in time with the words of Poet C J Dennis in their production “Ginger Mick At Gallipoli.”
From the much loved poems of C J Dennis this lively physical staging brings to life the story of Ginger Mick, best mate of the Sentimental Bloke, his days selling rabbits, falling in love and answering the call of the Great War and being shipped off to the Dardanelles. It’s a heart warming story of mateship, told in the colourful language of our national poet
Director, Leo Bradley, brings this classic to the stage, that takes audiences from the streets of Melbourne, through training in Egypt and right into the trenches on that fateful peninsula. The poetry of CJ Dennis was so inspirational to Australians at this time that many soldiers carried his words around in special “trench editions” printed to fit inside their pockets. Now Australian audiences can revisit the patriotic and soaring words of this amazing wordsmith.
“Ginger Mick At Gallipoli” will continue to play until August 2, at the Yeronga State High School Auditorium, Oakwood street, Annerley. For full performance details, and bookings, visit the companies website
