"A Man Named Gatsby" is written, composed, directed and produced by John Wikman. The show is based on the classic novel - The Great Gatsby written in 1925. There have also been three movie versions made in 1949, 1974 and 2013.
John was immediately drawn to the strong messages and colourful characters and admits he has stayed predominately true to the story except for adding a sprinkle more fun and a twist at the end.
Showcasing the talents of a cast of 15, John has written 24 original songs in the style of the 1920’s jazz age parties ranging from catchy upbeat jaunts and mysterious haunts to sweet love ballads.
The show has gorgeous costumes reminiscent of the 1920’s era, fantastic dance routines, clever sets and staging with a special appearance of a Gatsby sports car.
You might have read the Great Gatsby book or seen the movies, but nothing compares to seeing this spectacular new musical, touted as the most glittering Brisbane theatre event of 2016.
